Speaker #1: Andrew Spears, Financial Adviser for Edward Jones brought folders and talked about planning for retirement for a business owner. He states that this is less expensive than most people think and that we should call him to find out more information.
Speaker # 2: Cabinet Secretary Myles Copland speaking on behalf of aging and long-term Services for the state of NM. Stephanie Avery assisted him. HE stated The average age of the recipients receive NM Care is 80. 80+ population will increase to 80.5% of the population by 2030. The age of caregivers 45-64 continue to work and care for an elderly person. According to Mr. Copland the best thing an employer can do to assist caregivers is to be flexible and to direct employees to the aging and disability resource center (ADRC). The laws have changed concerning The family and medical leave act (FMLA). Whereas before a person had to take all their paid leave before qualifying for FMLA and now it can be mixed. Some paid some FMLA so that people can spread out their paid leave to avoid financial devastation.
The Treasurer Reports an approximate beginning balance of $7956.00 and approximate ending balance of $7087.00 $440 New Member, $1308 for expenses, $172 for meals, $129 for office supplies and non-food lunch supplies.
