EMIFPA Fire Info - April 22, 2016: Fire Fair May 7th

04/22/2016 6:18 AM | Nancy Carpenter

EM Residents,

NOAA has issued a "fire weather watch" forecast for the EM region from Sunday afternoon until early evening. Since April 5th, we have had a welcome respite from significant fire weather conditions. Back to reality! The complete forecast discussion is linked here: http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=abq&wwa=fire%20weather%20watch.

We recommend that you bookmark the following two web sites: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/abq/, and http://www.srh.noaa.gov/abq/?n=forecasts-fireweather-dss. These two sites should be reviewed daily as you prepare for work. They are invaluable planning tools, and allow you to keep your situational awareness focused.

The Sandia Park Scenic Byway Firewise Community is hosting a Fire Fair to help residents prepare for fire season. This will be May 7th, from 10:30 -12 noon at the Vista Grande Community Center. This is a comprehensive session, with multiple sources of helpful information, from local emergency responder agencies to private groups. Best part of the event: first graders from San Antonito Elementary School will be making a special presentation about helpful fire safety tips. Bring the family - there will be a forestry craft table for the kids. A great way to keep the youngsters engaged while you gather valuable wildfire safety information.

EMIFPA always encourages you to stay engaged and prepared for the potential wildfire disaster in our homeland. Remember, if you see or smell smoke, always call 911 immediately. Report it, don't ignore it!!
