Community Water Meeting

  • 05/07/2017
  • 2:00 PM
  • Vista Grande Community Center

Phillip Rust from Bernalillo County will do an update on Bernalillo County’s well monitoring program and share results of water decline in the Sandia Basin.

Deep Well will update the community about the Aquifer Science District Court case to obtain new water rights for Campbell Ranch. I don’t know if you have followed this case all these years, but here’s a quick summary: Campbell Ranch wants water for its 8,000 acre, 4,000 home development north of Frost Road

Campbell partnered with Vidler Water, a Nevada water rights developer, to form Aquifer Science (Campbell 5%, Vidler Water 95% owners)
Aquifer Science applied to the Office of the State Engineer (OSE) for 1500 acre feet of water in 2009
This application was protested by Bernalillo County, the Deep Well Protest and another 30 individual East Mountain protestants due to lack of available water
The OSE denied the Aquifer Science application due to lack of water in 2014  Aquifer Science appealed to District Court, where we are now.

The trial will be in August, 2017.
Aquifer Science just moved to the District Court to cut their application back to 350 acre feet of water, since they own over 600 acre feet in the Estancia Basin which they could use for the project.

Bernalillo County and Deep Well Protest just filed motions for summary judgement because the Campbell Master Plan is no longer accurate (Village 1 not annexed, etc.) and
because Campbell is no longer an active developer with resources to do the project.

They'd like it if you could join them at the community meeting, because water is such an important issue up here in the East Mountains.
