Come Fly a Kite

at Wildlife West Nature Park

Springtime in New Mexico brings wind and sunny skies, creating perfect conditions for the free 16th Annual Kite Festival on Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood.

Join the fun as kites fill the skies with colorful shapes of all sizes throughout the weekend.  Visitors can bring their own kite, buy one at the Festival, or watch professional stunt kite fliers maneuver kites expertly in the wind.  Visitors can participate in kite flying contests or fly their own kites for fun on large grass fields.

Members of the American Kiter's Association will bring custom made, one-of-a-kind kites that are big and exciting to watch.  A spectacular free-flight raptor show will be presented by world-renowned falconer Tom Smylie at 2 p.m. each day if weather permits, along with experimental aircraft flyover weather permitting. The Festival also features sustainable living displays, solar oven demonstrations and water harvesting tours.  Food and drinks will be available from vendors.

Admission to the Festival is FREE.  Visitors are also invited to go into Wildlife West Nature Park and Zoo to experience and get close to the 20 species of native New Mexico wildlife including black bear, cougars, elk, Crested Caracaras, raptors and more.  Admission to the Wildlife West Zoo is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.  Children 4 and younger are free.

Wildlife West is located at 87 North Frontage Road in Edgewood just 25 minutes east of Albuquerque, off Interstate 40 and legendary Route 66 in Edgewood.  For more information visit www.wildlifewest.org or call 505-281-7655, toll free 877-981-WILD (9453).
