GENERAL MEETING MINUTES OF EAST MOUNTAIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE JULY 5, 2012
The meeting was called to order at 12:00 pm by President Bob Brittain. Other board members present were Bill Herman, Treasurer, Diane Shoudt, Secretary, Wayne Clay & Barbara Ormand members at large and Julie Albright, Chamber Administrator.
The Current member presentation was given by Sarah Edgell of Sandia Park Self Storage. In 2010 there were 58,000 Self Storage Companies in the US. One in 10 households use storage facilities. You can put anything in self storage that you could store in your garage, such as Christmas decorations, out of season clothing, cars & appliances, but the items must be non-flammable. The most popular size unit is 10 X 10. The largest unit is 20 X 24. There is 24 hr access. They do not have climate control. There is a 10% discount to military families and Chamber members. The new member presentation was by Paula O’Neil of Southwest Propane. They have had 28 years experience in renting and selling tanks. They charge 20 to 50 cents less than their competition. It is currently $1.85/gal to fill tank. They are offering a special until the end of July for Chamber members at $1.65/gal. You must fill your tank twice a year. They are open Mon-Fri 8 to 5 and Sat 9 to 1. They serve both Commercial and Residential and there is a 10% discount to commercial accounts. They provided a small BBQ for a drawing which was won by Wayne Clay.
The guest speakers were Joanne & Bill East of Mountain Gardens. They spoke of landscaping for fire safety. There were 120,000 acres burned last year in 1263 fires. They advised to pick up all dead materials such as pine needles and plant away from the house. Avoid planting pinons, junipers, pine, and spruce near your house. Bill Herman gave the treasurer’s report. The income for June was $505.00. expenses were $1439.00 for a minus of $934.00. There was $6279.00 in the bank at the end of the month.
Susie Clay talked about Breakfast With Santa which will be held December 1st. Ellen Ashcraft announced July 16 as the deadline for submitting articles for the Chamber Voice. And it was announced that member Stephanie James has closed her business called What about the Flowers.
