Minutes of EMCC Luncheon Meeting 1/5/12
The first meeting of 2012 was called to order at 11:50 am by President Bob Brittain. Board members present were Bob Brittain, Bill Herman, Loretta Olson, Wayne Clay, Kara Schug and Diane Shoudt. Absent was Barbara Ormand.
New Members presentation was given by Janice McCrary with the Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors. She has been with the organization 8 years and they currently have 2700 members. They serve Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia and Torrence counties. The largest service they provide is the MLS (Multiple Listing Service), which is a data base of properties for sale and sold. They also oversee the Lok Box program using electronic keys which provide a tracking system to insure the safety of homes for sale. In addition they administer the Code of Ethics to which real estate salespeople must subscribe to and abide by to use the title of Realtor. Not all real estate salespeople are Realtors. The public can access market statistics by going to GAAR.com.
The current member presentation was given by Debi Owens representing the Sandia Peak Ski Area. Sandia Peak Ski Area has been in operation since 1936, stopping operations briefly during World War II. The first operator was Robert J Nordhouse who passed away recently, but previously celebrated his 90th birthday skiing Sandia Peak. The next operator was the late Ben Abruzzo. Current operators are Benny Abruzzo and his son Ben. Skiing is open Wednesday through Sunday & holidays. If possible they will be open until March 18th and could get that date extended if there is enough snow. Season tickets run about $495.00 and there is a Peak + card which saves $25 per day. Currently they have a 49 inch base. They offer downhill skiing and snowboarding. For more information call 242-9052.
Guest speaker was President Bob Brittain. He has an advertising speciality company which also does screen printing. He asked for ideas from members about their needs and suggestions about networking opportunities.
Bob Brittain also gave the Treasury report, since he was Treasurer last year. Income for December was $5694 and expenses of $2501. The year ended with $7929 in the bank, which was very good considering the previous year started in the red.
Past President Susie Clay thanked everyone for helping with Breakfast With Santa, which netted $2677. Susie is the Chairperson for 2012 Breakfast with Santa.
Member of the month is the Sandia Mountains Lions Club.
Sign up sheet for manning the Chamber office on Wednesdays was passed around. If you would like to volunteer for any 2 hr. shifts, please contact Julie Albright at 281-1999.
Meeting was adjourned at 12:45pm.
