Minutes EMCC Meeting 8/2/2012
Meeting was called to order by President Bob Brittain at 11:55am. Other officers and directors present were Bill Herman, Treasurer, Diane Shoudt, Secretary and members at large Barbara Ormand, Wayne Clay and Kara Schug and Chamber administrator Julie Albright.
Current member presentation was by Suzanne Parks, events coordinator from Paako Ridge Golf Club. Paako Ridge is a 27 hole course and the only 5 star course in NM. They are currently open from 7am to 7pm. They also have a beautiful patio where you can enjoy food from the grill. They have an events center that holds 150 people where they host weddings, anniversary parties, retirement parties, etc. The course is closed from December through February, although they still do events in December.
New Member presentation was by Joyce Byers and Joseph Velasquez of tried by FIRE music productions. They provide DJ and karaoke services in a family atmosphere. They are located near Subway in Edgewood and open 6 to 9pm.
Guest speaker was County Commissioner Wayne Johnson. He plans to promote 4 “green waste days” a year. The next will be Sept. 15 thru the 23rd. He said we are going into the next bond cycle and there are many issues he is working on, one is a question about NM#333, why not call it Old 66. They may be able to rename it but DOT has to approve. There will be more signs on the interstate leading to exits to Old 66. They are working on a dog park at Vista Grande that should be ready middle to late August. We are getting into bear season, keep your trash contained and if you have fruit trees, keep the fruit off the ground & BBQ’s inside. They are working on an open space called Carlito Springs and trying to get it open to the public in the next year or two. There will be events in Sept. and Oct. to tour the property. There’s 180 miles in the East Mountain that need paving and that will be a bond issue. Paving will occur where the needs are the greatest. Commissioner Johnson was presented a plaque from the Cuidad Soil & Water Conservation for his conservation efforts.
A door prize was donated by the Ramada Inn and won by Robin Markley from Beehive Homes.
The member of the month was drawn and won by Turquoise Trail Electric.
Tijeras Village zoning meetings are held the first Monday of the month and council meetings the 2nd and 3rd Mondays from 6 to 7pm.
Treasurers reported a beginning balance of $6279.41 and ending balance of $6733.54.
The meeting was adjourned at 1pm.
