General Meeting Minutes
March 3, 2011
President Suzy Clay called the meeting to order at 11:45am at Greenside Café. Tijeras facility is under construction.
Board Members present were: Suzy Clay, Peggy Moeller-Mead, Bob Brittain, Linda Eaglefeather, Deea Emmons, Paul Mendoza, and David Saegart.
New Member Presentation: Lee Liggett owner of Whispering Spirit Alpacas presented an interesting overview of his Alpaca business. His company’s focus is breeding, shearing, selling fleece, working to improve breeding and also helping others who are interesting in starting an Alpaca business. An Alpaca is shear once a year usually producing 8-10 lbs of fleece. Fleece is sold thru coop store and the website. Yarn is very popular, very warm and more durable than wool. He is working to bring the textile industry back to the USA. He currently has 14 Alpacas in his herd and he conducts tours for the public. He also shared that if anyone is interested in the Fiber Farm Tour to contact Bill Herman (286-1172, HollywicksFarm@gmail.com).
Current Member Presentation: Rick Howe of Turquoise Trail Electric and Water, LLC has been in business in the East Mountains since 1986. His business is both commercial and residential. Two years ago he bought Water Mart and adding that venture to his business. He is now involved in water harvesting, selling water barrels, as well as selling RO water to the public.
He is also a general contractor. The new location for Turquoise Trail Electric and Water is in Tijeras next to Molly’s in Suite “B”.
Guest Speaker: The Honorable Gloria Chavez, Mayor of Tijeras presented an informative look at the Village of Tijeras. First she indicated that she was please that the EMCC has very good relations with her organization. The Senior Center expansion begins in mid-summer, includes exercise room, computer rooms, etc. The water and gas line expansion on N14 is a one year long project at a cost of $2M. She indicated that she has been very successful a getting money from the Federal government in the form of grants and loans. Because of limited funding, projects are done in phases. In 2013 plans are to bring walkways and bike paths thru the Village – it will be a “Main Street” design.
Mayor Chavez updated us on the Department of Motor Vehicles in Tijeras. She said the office has all new employees and please do not hesitate to let her know your concerns.
Old Business:
1. Brochure for the EMCC is being developed.
2. 2011 Budget should be finalized today and ready for the EMCC membership at the April meeting.

- Price includes wine and beer, additional glasses will not be sold, but we ask for a donation
- Raffle will have a good selection of prizes
- Honoring Past, Present and Future, an awards ceremony and just getting to know each other
New Business:
1. April meeting may also be at the Greenside, check your e-mail.
2. Sue Hansen Putze of Ciudad SWCD announced that in 2011 there will be four weeks for Green Waste disposal. The first will be March 20 – 26. Drop off is at the East Mountain Transfer Station. All loads must be covered.
Treasurer’s Report: Bob Brittain, Treasurer reported that the ending balance for February 2011 was $7238.57.
Drawing for Member of the Month: March 2011 Member of the Month is Carolyn Hocke, One Stop Business Shop, congratulations.
